Overview

Join like-minded people for one of two exciting study tours exploring the history of one of the most ancient locations in the world.  We will explore Malta and its

neighbour Gozo and seek to understand the prehistoric history of the islands and the role of the Knights of St John in the Renaissance.  This tour is very competitively priced (c. one third the price of other similar tours) in order to make it widely available.

Expert guides

There will be evening lectures and discussions.    On the six-day tour on 19-24 June, lectures will be also be given by Profs Savona Ventura and also Moss, with topics covering:

​

* the  links between Malta and Atlantis

* the significance of the Sirius star system and

* the importance of the Knights of Malta and the Maltese Cross

* the possible significance of the so-called 'Cart Ruts'

​

You will be able to enjoy the unique experience of the summer solstice at Mnajdra South Temple.  There will be ample time for relaxation  and visiting Valletta and a market at a fishing port on both tours.

TOUR   19 - 24 June

       Day 1 (Friday 8)

       Arrival and dinner at the hotel.

 

       Day 2 (Saturday 9)

       Morning: Valletta: the Grandmaster's Palace, short walk through town, coffee break,

       the  Archaeological Museum; ferry to Vittoriosa and lunch there.         

       Afternoon: Fort St. Angelo and short walk through Vittoriosa.    

       Evening: dinner in hotel; presentation by Prof Charles Ventura-Savona on the topic of

       ‘Malta: echoes of Plato's Island’

       

       Day 3 (Sun 21)                                                                                                 

       Morning   Hypogeum and Tarxien temples                                                                                             Lunch at Marsaxlokk, attractive fishing village, and to the market selling honey, fruit

       jams, wine as well as souvenirs and clothes.                                                                                         Afternoon  Visit to the Ghar Dalam cave.                                                               

       Evening: dinner in hotel

 

      Day 4 (Mon 22)                                                                                                                 

      Summer solstice at Mnajdra + Hagar Qim temples.    Rest of the day  free.

      Evening: dinner in hotel; presentation by Prof Gloria Moss on the prehistory of the

      islands and the possible significance of Sirius.

 

      Day 5 (Tues 23)

      Gozo                                                                                                             

      Evening: dinner in the hotel; presentation on the Knights of St John and the Maltese

      Cross (speaker to be confirmed)

      ACCOMODATION;  Palazzin hotel **** St Paul's Bay

      Comfortable accommodation by the coast.  All-inclusive

      half board (breakfast and dinner, with vegetarian options

      available and wine and water included in the all-in cost).

      One person sharing a double room (excluding flights)  -£597 

      (single person supplement of £150.00).  Rooms are all with

      balcony, superior, with pool view.

      TOUR GUIDES / LECTURERS

      A guest lecturer on the June tour will be Charles Savona Ventura,

      Professor at the University of Malta, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery. 

      He has written extensively on Maltese pre-history.

      A further lecturer who has written on aspects of ancient history is

      Prof Gloria Moss.

    BOOKING

    The tour will be limited to 20 people.  If you would like to book places,

      please contact us so that we can confirm places are available and then

     transfer appropriate monies to the following account:

     are received, we will send you a receipt of payment.

     

     You are responsible for booking your own flight(s) to Malta and an

     airport bus provided by Maltatransfer (see        

    https://www.maltatransfer.com/)  will take you to the Palazzin hotel.  

     You can aim to arrive by late afternoon and our group will be eating 

     together in the evening.

    We would recommend early booking in order to obtain good value

    tickets.  For example, in December, return flights from London to Malta

    for the dates of our study tour are available for £64.00 - 68.00.

    WEATHER

    Weather will be warm/ very warm in Malta in June. with a high of

    28 degrees.
